  • Chinese New Year - 2022

    Chinese New Year - 2022
Chinese New Year Its origin is ancient, but many believe the word Nian, which means "year", was the name of a beast that preyed on people on the eve of a new year.   In one legend, the beast, Nian, had the power to swallow up all the people in a village in one big bite. Village people were very scared of Nian.   One day, an old man came to the villagers' rescue, offering to subdue Nian. The old man asked Nian, "I know you can swallow people, but can you swallow other beasts of prey instead of people who are by no means your worthy opponents?"    Nian accepted the old man's challenge and swallowed the beasts that had harassed the villagers and their farm animals for years.  At the end of the legend, the old man disappeared riding off on Nian. In this legend, the old man turned out to be an immortal god.    In the end, Nian is gone and the other beasts of prey are scared into hiding in the forests. The villagers can once again enjoy their peaceful life.     The legend goes on to say before the old man left, he told the villagers to put red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end in order to keep Nian away. It is believed Nian is afraid of the color red.   The tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term "Guo Nian", which means "Survive the Nian" became "Celebrate the Year" and the word "guo" in Chinese means both "pass over" and "observe".    The custom of putting up red paper and lighting firecrackers to scare away Nian continues today - ycsilicone.com

  • What is silicone?

    News Feb 09, 2022

    What is silicone?
What is silicone?   silicone literally means silicone is a porous solid silica material with a large area. First of all, silicone is not plastic. silicone is an amorphous silica material.     What can you think of when you mention silicone in your daily life?   The first thought is that it is commonly used in cosmetic hospitals to place human body filler to make it a more beautiful object such as full and three-dimensional. In recent years, the cosmetic industry has swept the country and developed rapidly in China.   As a main material, we must pay attention to whether silicone is toxic and harmful to human body?   In fact, we can also verify whether silicone is harmful from many star cosmetic surgery. Of course, silicone kitchen service is the best example. Now more and more silicone products appear in all fields of life and are generally recognized and accepted by everyone.   Can we make a preliminary determination that it is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and harmless.   More high-end is that silicone can also be made into human blood vessels, lungs, and other internal organs. Because of its acid resistance and non-toxic, silicone will be an important choice to replace patients' internal organs in the future. For example, 100% food grade silicone is used for baby molar gum, pacifier, silicone spoon, silicone bowl, baby silicone toothbrush, silicone tableware, etc.

  • Are silicones toxic?

    News Dec 13, 2021

    Are silicones toxic?
While the research indicates that silicones are certainly very stable, they are not completely inert. In other words, there is a possibility of leaching. For example, one study tested the release of siloxanes from silicone nipples and bakeware into milk, baby formula, and a solution of alcohol and water. Nothing was released into the milk or formula after six hours, but after 72 hours in the alcohol solution, several siloxanes were detected. Siloxanes are considered potential endocrine disrupters, and some have been linked to cancers.   Many experts and authorities consider silicones to be nontoxic and safe for contact with food and drink. For example, Health Canada states: "There are no known health hazards associated with use of silicone cookware. Silicone rubber does not react with food or beverages, or produce any hazardous fumes."   While the scientific evidence is weak in pointing a smoking gun at silicones, the questions and uncertainty are there, so it’s worth keeping a close eye on them—especially given the growing concerns about endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Siloxanes are also present at detectable levels in land, air, and water, and given their durability, they tend to persist in the environment for a long time.

  • So what is silicone exactly? And is it different from silicon?

    News Dec 13, 2021

So what is silicone exactly? And is it different from silicon?
So what is silicone exactly? And is it different from silicon? Like any plastic polymer, silicones are synthetic and include a mix of chemical additives. The key differentiator from carbon-based plastics is that silicones have a backbone made of silicon. I know, confusing! It’s important to get the terminology right here, so let's dive in:   Silica: When people say silicones are made of sand, they are not incorrect, though that’s too simplistic a description. Silica—or silicon dioxide—is what they are referring to. Silica is the raw material used to make silicone resins. Beach sand is practically pure silica, as is quartz.   Silicon: This is the base element that makes up silica, but silicon is not generally found in nature in this elemental form. It is made by heating silica at very high temperatures with carbon in an industrial furnace.   Silicone (siloxane): The silicone is then reacted with fossil fuel-derived hydrocarbons to create siloxane monomers that are bonded together into polymers to form the final silicone resin. The quality of these silicones can vary greatly depending on the level of purification. For example, the silicones used to make computer chips are highly purified.

  • Are silicones plastic?

    News Dec 13, 2021

    Are silicones plastic?
Silicones—or siloxanes, as they are also known—are something of a hybrid between synthetic rubbers and synthetic plastic polymers. They can take on different forms and be used to make malleable rubberlike items, hard plasticlike resins, and thick spreadable fluids. Silicones have plasticlike properties: flexibility, malleability, clarity, temperature resistance, and water resistance. Like plastic, they can be shaped or formed and softened or hardened into practically anything. Since they're easy to clean, nonstick, and nonstaining, they're popular for cookware and kitchen utensils, too.
